Rehabilitation Centers
Izmit Rehabilitation Center is among the most prominent institutions in the field of rehabilitation, spearheaded following the Marmara earthquake in 1999. It provides high-quality outpatient, physical, psychological and social support services to earthquake victims. It operated under AÇEV’s management until 2002 when it was transferred to Kocaeli University, a local stakeholder. The Center provided an important model for the establishing and operating rehabilitation centers in Turkey, and it still continues to operate as a training and education center.
The Oya Bahadır Yüksel Youth Center was established in 2009 in partnership with the Gaziantep Municipality to serve 14-19-year-old street children suffering from substance abuse. The Center implements a unique treatment and rehabilitation program integrating counseling services with occupational therapy and vocational training.
The Center offers children a wide range of rehabilitative workshops ranging from textiles, stone masonry, mosaic, jewelry design, music and other arts and crafts. The 2,500 m2 Center is within a 15,000 m2 enclosed area and has quickly become a model for youth rehabilitation activities in Turkey.
Based on the experience acquired during the set-up of the İzmit Rehabilitation Center, AÇEV established the ‘Post-Trauma Family Counseling Center’ in Van following the tragic earthquake in 2011, in collaboration with the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services and the Society for Psychological Trauma and Crisis Intervention (PAYE).
The Post-Trauma Family Counseling Center is a unique model offering families, and in particular women and children, integrated psychological rehabilitation and psycho-social support, counseling and education services. The Center’s management was transferred to Van 100. Yıl University in 2013 where it continues to serve the local population in need.
